Reading, filtering and returning to your position
- Choose a model. Its data, duplicate groups, volumes and hiding choices remain independent. Find a surah by number, Arabic name or Latin name.
- A duplicate group contains all occurrences of the same repeated word or passage according to the model’s rules. Check the last column to hide the entire group, including occurrences outside the visible page. In “Hidden duplicate groups”, select groups to restore or restore all. Click outside, move focus outside, press Escape or use Close to dismiss the menu.
- Hiding choices are saved per model in this browser and shared between its tabs without changing the database. “Show table” preserves them and gives access to all 13 volumes. Without filters, pagination follows the source table; with filtering or sorting, the volume’s results are allocated to pages of 50 before hiding. Hiding or restoring does not redistribute rows between these pages. Quran, table and PDF pages are different.
- Choose the minimum word count in the “Duplicate” header. Spaces, including an invisible separator found in some texts, separate words: a detached waw counts as a word; an attached waw stays attached. Combine the filter with hidden groups without changing source text or counts.
- Arrows on “Duplicate”, “Isolated in ayah”, “Total isolated”, “Ayah Count” and “Surah Count” cycle through ascending, descending and source order. “Duplicate” sorts by word count; the others sort numerically. One sort applies to all matching results, not just the visible page; complete rows move together and ties keep source order.
- The compact surah bar combines the name, represented verse count and navigation by verse or Quran page. An out-of-range number triggers a red message without changing the view. “Whole surah” clears navigation only, preserving hidden groups and minimum words.
- Click text in the “Duplicate” column to open its group. “Back to table” restores the view, filters, page and reading position. First, Previous, Next and Last instead open the new page at the top.
- “Full-screen table” opens a focused view with pagination. Exit with the button or Escape. While scrolling, ↑ buttons on both left and right return the table and page to the top.
- In the First Model and the Second Model, both exact search and normalized search ignoring diacritics show non-duplicate matches on a muted grey-sage background, very pale in light mode and dark in night mode, without changing the text colour. Overlapping duplicates always retain their original red text and pink background: search highlighting never covers them. Original Quranic text and diacritics remain unchanged.
- The “Search highlighting: on / off” button in the search bar shows or hides only this additional background, immediately and without running the search again. Results, counts, filters, pagination, reading position and duplicate colours stay unchanged. On by default, this display choice is saved in this browser and shared across the Second Model, the First Model and both search modes; it is not included in a shared link. If local storage is unavailable, the button still works in the current view.
- In “Text with tashkīl”, select the desired passage of a verse and use Ctrl+C. To select the whole verse, click its cell, then use Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C. On Mac, use the Command key. Letters and diacritics are preserved.
- The Arabic keyboard provides letters, diacritics, Quranic signs and extended variants. Insert at the cursor or replace a selection. “Clear search” empties the field without submitting. All tools support the four languages and light/dark themes.
Choosing a model and moving around the site
We recommend that beginners start with “Model No. 1”: it follows the order of the Quran, from surah 1 to surah 114, and is the easiest to learn. There, you decide yourself whether to open a duplicate’s group by clicking its text in the “المكرر” column.
“Model No. 2” shows each duplicate with its whole chain of repetitions, one after another. A frequent duplicate such as “الله” (2393 repetitions) forms a very long list there: use this model mainly to see a complete chain at once.
In “Model No. 2”, a surah does not necessarily start with its first verse. Rows are arranged duplicate by duplicate, in the order of the search results: first all the verses of the surah that contain the first duplicate (for example “الله”), then those of the next duplicate, and so on. The first verse is therefore not missing: if it contains a duplicate, it appears further down, with that duplicate. “Model No. 1” follows the order of the verses.
In “Model No. 2”, two small arrows accompany each verse. The “▲” arrow takes you to the duplicate before the displayed group, and the “▼” arrow to the duplicate after the last row of that group, even if it is on another page. The tour started with this model’s “Guided tour” button also presents them.
To return to the home page from the table or from any other page, click the “Home” button or the project’s main logo at the top of the page.
The site opens in your browser’s language when it is one of the four available languages (Arabic, French, English, Spanish), otherwise in English. You can change the language at any time with the language menu at the top of the page; your choice is then remembered.
The table size you choose with “−” and “+” is kept from one page to the next and on your next visits; “100%” restores it. On phones and tablets, the whole command bar above the table scrolls sideways with your finger, including the table size, the guided tour and full screen. On Android phones, “Full-screen table” also hides the browser’s address bar; on iPhone, Safari does not allow websites to do this: turn the phone sideways to gain space.
In this project, “بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ” is counted as the first verse of Surah Al-Fatiha. The “Methodology” page explains this choice.
Duplicate search and reading comfort
The “Duplicate” button beside “All segments” opens a search across all duplicates in the selected model, without a permanent extra toolbar above the table. Enter an Arabic letter, word, passage fragment or full duplicate. Comparison ignores diacritics without changing displayed text. Single letters precede single words, followed by passages in increasing word count; shorter texts come first when word counts match, with 50 results per page when needed.
Select a result to open its duplicate group, just as when clicking the Duplicate column. The two models remain separate. For a hidden group, explicitly select “Restore this group” before opening it. A red message indicates no matching duplicate in this model, not that the text is absent from the Quran. This fragment search does not change the method used to form groups, which favours the longest repeated segment.
“Arabic keyboard” shows or hides the keyboard inside the panel. The “Duplicate” panel and its keyboard no longer close after an inactivity timeout: take your time choosing letters. Use the cross, close button, Escape or an outside click. Closing on an outside click or loss of browser-window focus keeps the search for the next opening and does not change the table page or reading position. “Clear search” clears only this field. “Close and return to table” preserves the original view; after opening a duplicate group, “Back to table” restores the page and reading position. Escape closes the keyboard first when open, then the panel. Arrow Down from the field moves to the results.
When accounts are available, the header shows “Sign in” if you are signed out. After sign-in, your username links to “My account”, and “Sign out” ends your session. Your email address is not displayed in the header. Information pages and the showcase remain accessible after sign-out; restricted access still requires an authorized session.
Hiding a group, “Restore all” and “Restore selected” preserve the current page and reading position while it still contains visible rows. Rows on other pages are not moved. Next and Previous skip fully hidden pages, so original page numbers can jump. Direct navigation to a hidden page opens the next available page, or the previous one if none remain after it, with an explanatory message. If everything is hidden, restore some groups. The top arrows stay below the table, including in fullscreen.
The matching part of each search result appears in red without changing its text or marks. The distinct “Go to page” block beside the page controls accepts a number followed by Enter or “Go”. A red message flags invalid numbers or numbers beyond the last page. Usual, Indian and Arabic digits are supported.
Guided tour, compact navigation and installation
Your first visit to the homepage offers a table introduction. The tour also starts on the first direct visit to a table. The Guided tour button beside zoom and fullscreen restarts it in each view. On small screens it appears as a question mark.
The hints follow tools available in the model and view: volumes, surah and volume filters, verse and actual-page navigation, search, columns, counters, sorting, segments, hidden groups, Duplicate search and Arabic keyboard, zoom, fullscreen, pagination and duplicate links. Next and Previous change steps; some steps ask you to operate the control yourself. Skip this step and the close button remain available. The tour never automatically applies filters, hides groups or inserts text; any actions you choose are real table actions.
The first-tour preference is stored only in this browser. It does not reset on each sign-in or website update. Clearing site data can show it again; clearing browsing history alone does not necessarily remove the setting. Another browser or unavailable local storage may also prompt again. Changing pages exits the tour; restart from the beginning using its button.
The model and volumes share a compact strip with clear separators and horizontal scrolling. On a duplicate family page, the selected text, model and Back to table button share one strip. Long passages remain complete and scroll horizontally rather than expanding to multiple lines. Return buttons for surahs, volumes and the table are prominent in light and dark modes.
Previous and Next share blue styling. First and Last use purple. Labels and disabled states remain visible, so color is not the only distinction.
Use an up-to-date browser to install the website. When installation is available, the site button opens the browser’s official prompt; acceptance does not guarantee the phone has finished installing. On iPhone, use Share and Add to Home Screen. If installation does not complete, the site remains usable in the browser. The store application shown in Applications and documents is separate from installing the Mukarrar website.
Locate the featured tool
At each tour step, the purple frame pulses 3 times, then stays steady. An arrow moves back and forth towards the tool a few times, then remains visible. These markers do not block clicks or reduce table space. If your device requests reduced motion, the frame and arrow stay still.
Applications and documents: browse and download
When the document module is enabled, published cards show files and their images. They may contain applications, documents or a folder. Official Quran Search store links remain separate from files uploaded to this site.
- “Public”: no Mukarrar account is needed. “Verified account”: sign in with a username and confirmed email; “Continue” can resume the requested download. “Disabled”: downloads are denied even when signed in.
- Download individual files, or use the folder button when several files are available to receive a ZIP retaining their subfolders. Macro-enabled files carry a warning: checks cannot guarantee that VBA code is completely safe.
- Downloads require a network connection; offline errors never replace the file with an HTML page. Public access does not grant administration permissions.
My account: registration, sign-in and recovery
When signing up, wait for the anti-bot security check and select the checkbox if shown. If the check expires or fails, use “Restart the check”. An outage prevents account creation, not access to an existing account. Internet is required; this check does not replace email verification.
These screens appear when the account module is enabled. Use a username, an email address you can access and a unique password of at least 8 characters, including at least one uppercase letter, one digit and one special character. The same rule applies when resetting your password.
- “Create an account” asks you to confirm your password. Open the message and click “Verify my email”; merely opening the link does not confirm the address. Check spam, or request another message with “Resend verification”.
- Confirm your email address to complete registration, then sign in with your username or email.
- If an address correction is suggested, review it and choose “Use this address” or “Keep my address”. The form never changes your address automatically. If an address error appears, check it or use another address you can access.
- In “My account”, “Continue” returns to the documents or requested download. “Close other sessions” keeps the current one; “Sign out” closes it.
- “Forgot password” sends a single-use link if the request is eligible. Confirm the new password; existing sessions are revoked. Missing, expired or used links require a new request. Repeated requests may be temporarily limited.
Account security and document management
Two-factor authentication is mandatory for the owner managing documents. It can also be set up from account security; knowing the password does not replace the second factor.
- In “Account security”, confirm your password, scan the QR with your authenticator app or enter the manual key, then save recovery codes offline. Confirm that you saved them and enter a six-digit code to finish.
- Each recovery code works once. Never share the QR, key or codes. At sign-in, use an app code or a recovery code; previously used codes cannot be replayed.
- Management requires confirmation within the last ten minutes. “Renew security confirmation” opens another tab, keeping your document form open; confirm a new code, then return to the form. Renew during a long upload if necessary.
Use an email code
After setting up two-factor authentication with your authenticator app, you can choose a code sent to your account’s already verified email address when your phone is unavailable. Your password is still required to sign in. Email codes expire after 5 minutes and can be used only once; requests and attempts are limited. Protect your mailbox with its own two-factor authentication and keep backup codes safely offline.
Contacting Mukarrar
On Contact, “Write an email” opens your email application to write to contact@mukarrar.com. “Copy address” lets you use it in your webmail; you can also select the field and copy the address manually.
Include the page, language, browser and steps relevant to your request. Do not include passwords or security codes. Send the message yourself from your email service: clicking the website button does not send it.
Guide to colours and results in the table
This table aims to present words or segments repeated in the Qur'an, indicating their locations, the number of times they occur, and the search results within verses and surahs. Colours and numerical results have been used to make reading easier and to distinguish between the different types of match.
The reader should note that the displayed results are not limited to the apparent repetition of the word or segment alone, but also show the difference between an exact, isolated match and a match that may appear inside a longer word or linked to other letters or terms.
First: the red text within the verses
In the column “The Qur'an according to the orthographic script (conjunction waw separated)”, the searched-for part appears in red within the verse.
The red text marks the repeated word or segment being searched for, i.e. the same term shown in the “Duplicate” column.
Thus, when the repeated word appears in red within the verse text, it means that this location does contain the searched-for term, whether as an exact, isolated match or as a match embedded in a broader linguistic structure, depending on the type of result shown in the other columns.
Second: the text colour in the “Duplicate” column
In the “Duplicate” column, the text colour indicates the number of times the repeated word or segment appears within a single surah:
- Green text: the repeated word or segment appears twice or more within the same surah.
- Black text: the repeated word or segment appears only once in that surah.
This distinction helps the reader know whether the repetition is specific to a single verse or spread over several locations within the same surah.
Third: the “Match result within the verse” column
The “Match result within the verse” column shows the number of exact, isolated matches of the searched word or segment within a single verse. An exact, isolated match means that the searched text corresponds one hundred percent to the text found, and that it appears as an autonomous unit, without being linked to other letters or words, and without being part of a longer word.
If a number appears on a yellow background in this column, it means that the repeated word appears twice or more within the same verse; this number precisely indicates the number of exact, isolated repetitions at that location.
Fourth: the “Result of exact and broader matches within the verse” column
This column shows a broader range of results, since it includes:
- Exact, isolated matches.
- Matches that are part of a longer word.
- Matches linked to other letters or terms.
- Locations where the searched text appears within a broader written structure.
This is why it is normal for the number in this column to be equal to or greater than the number in the “Match result within the verse” column. This difference signals no error: it simply reflects a different search method and scope.
Fifth: the meaning of the pink background and the red number
When a cell appears with a pink background and a number written in red, this indicates a difference between the results of the two columns “Match result within the verse” and “Result of exact and broader matches within the verse”.
This difference means that the searched text was found at one or more locations inside a longer word or linked text, and therefore appears in the broader search result without necessarily appearing in the exact, isolated match result.
This result is normal and intentional, as it distinguishes the standalone word from the word that occurs as part of a larger word or structure.
Example: the word “يعلم” (ya'lam)
When searching for the word “يعلم” in Allah's statement: ﴿أَوَلَا يَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعۡلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعۡلِنُونَ 77﴾ [Al-Baqara, 77]
the “Match result within the verse” column gives a single result, since it finds the isolated word “يَعْلَمُ”.
whereas the “Result of exact and broader matches within the verse” column gives two results, since it finds “يَعْلَمُ” as well as the same letters inside the word “يَعْلَمُونَ”.
The word “يعلم” is thus found inside the word “يعلمون”, even though “يعلمون” is not an exact, isolated match for the word “يعلم”. This explains the difference between the two results.
Sixth: the overall results
The “Overall result of exact matches only” column shows the total number of exact, isolated matches of the repeated word across all the surahs of the Qur'an.
The number in this column appears in blue, and represents the sum of the locations where the word appeared as an exact, isolated match.
The “Overall result of exact and broader matches” column, meanwhile, shows the sum of the broader results, and includes:
- Exact, isolated matches.
- Matches found inside longer words.
- Matches linked to other letters or parts of the text.
This is why the overall figure in this column may be equal to or greater than that of the “Overall result of exact matches only” column.
Seventh: the “Verses” and “Surahs” columns
Two columns also indicate the extent to which the repeated word is spread across the Qur'an:
- “Verses” column: indicates the total number of verses in which the searched word or segment was found.
- “Surahs” column: indicates the total number of surahs in which the searched word or segment appeared.
The word may indeed be repeated several times within a single verse, appear in several verses of the same surah, or be spread across many surahs. This is why the number of matches, the number of verses and the number of surahs are presented separately, so that the reading is more precise and clearer.
Methodological note
When reading the results, two notions should be distinguished: the exact, isolated match, which denotes the searched term exactly as it is, without being linked to another word or embedded in a larger word;
and the broader match, which includes the isolated term, but also includes its occurrence inside other words or structures.
This distinction is deliberate in the construction of the table, as it allows the reader and the researcher to consider the results from two different angles: that of the precise match, and that of the broader search within the Qur'anic text.
Technical note: the site's interface uses precise colour shades (such as dark green or dark blue) to display these results clearly on screen, and also adds light colours to the headers of certain columns to make visual distinction easier; this is an additional interface styling that changes nothing in the rules and meanings described above.
