Project introduction
المُكَرَّر في القرآن العظيم
Praise be to Allah, who sent down the Qur'an as guidance for mankind, clear proofs of guidance and discernment, placing within it secrets, treasures and teachings whose wonders never cease. May prayer and peace be upon our master Muhammad, seal of the prophets and master of the messengers, and upon his family and all his companions.
Repetition in the Qur'an is not a mere repetition of words or meaning: it is a wide gate of Qur'anic eloquence, carrying divine messages, educational meanings and scientific indications, which minds have never ceased to ponder and from which they keep drawing something new in every age. Yet cataloguing every repetition in the Qur'an and knowing its precise details has remained an extremely difficult task, almost impossible without modern technical means.
I am the servant of Allah “Idriss Ben Salah CHAIBI”, founder of this project. It is with great joy that I present to the reader this unique technical and scientific project, the fruit of several years of careful research, software development and continuous effort, born from the pressing need to offer researchers, those memorising the Qur'an, students of the religious sciences and every lover of the Qur'an a scientific tool to reflect on the Book of Allah, understand its rhetorical secrets and grasp the wisdom of repetition — an undertaking that is almost impossible without modern technology. This is how this pioneering project was born: “المُكَرَّر في القرآن العظيم (Duplicates in the Holy Quran)”, the first technical program and digital project to gather and document every location of repetition in the Qur'an, presented in a scientific, precise and accessible way, reaching an impressive figure: 123,144 repeated locations. This digital project, already divided into thirteen tomes for each model, is meant to become one day, following this same division, a printed book of thirteen volumes, putting this complete work into the reader's hands, on paper as well as on screen.
Allah says in Surah Ar-Rahman: ﴿فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ 13﴾ [Ar-Rahman, 13].
This verse was repeated thirty-one times, so that Allah could stress through it the abundance of His favours and the diversity of His graces, and urge His servants to gratitude and reflection.
Scholars have pointed out that repetition in the Qur'an is never arbitrary, but belongs to the secrets of eloquence and expression, as Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“There is no pure repetition in the Qur'an; every passage necessarily carries its own particular lessons.”
Why this project?
This work serves lofty goals and valuable benefits, among which:
- Making it easier to reflect on the Qur'an, by clearly highlighting repetitions, which helps the reader understand their secrets and discover the links between verses and surahs.
- Making memorisation of the Qur'an easier, by letting those who memorise it know the repeated locations, which eases memorisation and reduces mistakes.
- Offering precise knowledge of repetition, a task almost impossible without this program, whose scale and diversity can only be grasped by consulting this unique encyclopaedic work.
- Opening new horizons for scientific research, by allowing researchers to study the phenomenon of repetition from a rhetorical, linguistic and statistical angle, with unprecedented precision and thoroughness.
- Providing a complete digital reference, a vast database that can be queried, sorted and analysed, serving researchers, teachers and students alike.
- Serving exegetes and students of the religious sciences, by helping to track repeated locations and uncover their nuances, which enriches exegesis and deepens understanding.
- Enriching linguistic and rhetorical studies, by highlighting the rhetorical beauty of the repetition of words and structures, and revealing the secrets of Qur'anic expression.
- Keeping pace with modern technology: this program can be integrated with artificial intelligence applications, memorisation tools and digital education, to meet the demands of the digital age.
- Strengthening young generations' love for the Qur'an, by offering interactive, engaging content that encourages young people to interact with the Qur'an, memorise it and reflect on it.
- Facilitating thematic comparisons, by allowing the researcher to compare repeated locations and study their contexts and purposes, opening the way to a deeper understanding of the Qur'an.
- Contributing to the contemporary Qur'anic revival, by placing in the hands of the community an advanced scientific and technical tool, serving the Qur'an and spreading its sciences throughout the world.
Closing word
“المُكَرَّر في القرآن العظيم (Duplicates in the Holy Quran)” is not merely a program, but a collective, civilisational project, which aims to bring the Qur'an closer to hearts and minds, and to place in the hands of the community and the world a unique tool serving the Book of Allah, through means that were not available before. We ask Allah to make this work sincere, to make it beneficial to Muslims, and to make it a building block in a contemporary scientific Qur'anic revival.
